Turnkey ecommerce for Square bookstores

No catalog to import and no listings to write. Brand it, choose your pickup and shipping options, and share the link.

An online bookstore without a second system

Most ecommerce platforms keep a separate catalog, inventory, and payment processor, then need an app to keep them in sync with your POS. General store builders don't know what a book is, so every description and cover is up to you. The book by book storefront sells from your Square catalog and fills in the book details for you.

Runs on Square

  • Prices and stock come from your Square catalog
  • Customers pay through Square, as they do in store
  • Every order is created in Square, ready to fulfill like any other
  • One catalog to keep up to date: the one in Square

Made for books

  • Search your books by title, author, or ISBN
  • Book pages with covers, descriptions, and publisher details already filled in
  • Staff picks and curated lists, plus automatic new arrivals
  • Special order requests for books you don't have on the shelf

Set up your bookstore website

Your books and sidelines are already in Square, so there's no catalog to import. A guided setup walks you through the rest.

  1. 1 Brand it.
Add your logo, colors, hero image, hours, and about page. A live preview shows exactly what shoppers will see.
  2. 2 Choose what to feature.
Build lists like staff picks or a book club shelf. New arrivals fill in on their own as you receive books.
  3. 3 Set how orders get to customers.
Offer in-store pickup, shipping, or both, with your own shipping rates.
  4. 4 Share your link.
Your store goes live at its own bookbybook.app address. Post it on your website, social accounts, and newsletter.

What the storefront includes

Book pages filled in for you

Every book shows its cover, description, author, and price, pulled from the same data book by book uses to fill in your Square catalog.

Live inventory

Stock is checked against Square at checkout, so shoppers don't buy a copy that just sold at the register.

Pickup and shipping

Customers choose in-store pickup or shipping. Limit shipping to your state or mark items that can't ship.

Special orders

Shoppers can request a book you don't stock. You see the request and order the book. When you mark it ready, the customer gets an email.

Order emails

Customers get a receipt and a shipping notice with tracking. You get an email for every new order.

Built for search engines

Each store has its own sitemap and structured book data, so your titles can show up when people search for them.

Questions about the storefront

How do I get access to the storefront?

Open Settings > Storefront in book by book to set up your online store. If you're not a customer yet, start a free trial. You choose when your storefront goes live.

Do I need a separate ecommerce platform like Shopify?

No. The storefront reads your Square catalog directly and takes payments through Square, so you don't need a separate catalog, sync app, or payment processor.

How is this different from Square Online?

Square Online is a general store builder. It doesn't know what a book is, so you write every description and upload every cover yourself, and shoppers can't search by author or ISBN. The book by book storefront fills in book data for you, lets shoppers search by author or ISBN, and adds curated lists and special order requests.

Where do online orders show up?

In Square, alongside your other orders. Each order includes its pickup or shipping details, and when you mark it picked up or shipped in Square, the storefront updates and emails the customer.

Can I sell sidelines?

Yes. Anything in your Square catalog can be sold online, including sidelines like puzzles, cards, gifts, and games.

Can I use my own domain name?

Not yet. Each storefront has its own address on bookbybook.app today, and you can link to it from your website. Custom domains are coming soon.
